
Dana L. Getz, O.D. has been in private practice in New Hyde Park, NY for more than twenty years. She has also been a consultant to numerous schools in the metropolitan New York area. Through her vision screening program in nursery schools and office eye exams, Dr. Getz has detected countless pediatric and adult vision problems that might otherwise have gone untreated. Dr. Getz has been quoted in such publications as Child Magazine, This Week and First School Years. Dr. Getz is a longstanding member of the American Optometric Association. She was chosen as a clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry because of her outstanding professional contributions in vision care. Dr. Getz graduated with honors from the University of California at Berkley, College of Optometry. She completed her residency in Vision Therapy at the State University of New York, College of Optometry where she has also been a clinical associate professor. She has also volunteered providing vision exams and eyeglasses with World Vision in Mexico and with VOSH in Peru. Locally Dr. Getz continues to volunteer with VSP Global Mobile Vision Clinic providing eye exams for Charter Schools and Health Centers in New York City.
Dana L. Getz has been recognized as the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for the Floral Park/Bellerose Communities for organizing and hosting the Battling Bishops, a children’s chess Club in Bellerose Village. Dr. Getz also volunteer for the Nassau County Medical Reserves Corps and has participated in providing disaster relief recovery and COVID-019 vaccinations programs for Long Island.
Finally, Dr. Getz is exceptionally proud of the many future optometrists, opticians, and health care providers she has mentored throughout her professional career.
